Sigh

Well, it's time for the TT, again (for people who don't know what that is, it's a big motorcycle road race) two weeks of chaos and disruption!
This year is the centenery, 100 years of this being celebrated, so we have around 100,000 people and bikes expected to descend on our tiny 33 x 13 mile island. Already, in the two days since the practices have started, Buses have been diverted or cancelled so they can close the road for the bikes to race on. A fortnight of that!!!
Also, in the two days, there has been a house fire three doors down from me, that required 4 fire engines (one had to come from somewhere else, Douglas only has three), around 6 cop cars, and the national guard landrover.
Today when I was coming to work, three cop cars and a police van went screaming down the road (dodging the horse trams as they went)
There is a funfair to be set up on the Prom, along with 2 beer tents, two giant screens, and on next Sunday there is going to be a massive street party there, because it's Mad Sunday (This means people with a motorbike and little sense get to ride the TT course) and the prom is the only way for me to walk to work.
On the very slight plus side:
There will be fireworks, the red arrows, and the Tall Ships are coming into Douglas Harbor to take people for a little sail for a mere £20.
And to think I moved here for a quiet life!!!!
Once this is over, we also have to look forward to our open air parliment in July (more road closures)
The Grand Prix. (More road closures)
The southern 100 (More - you get the drift)
and quite possible the rally too. (More.......)
If anyone wants to know more about our poor over-run little rock

The last time I saw the TT races was when I was 13 and on a school trip to Castletown. Having took the boat from Liverpool.
Mum is thinking of going to Onchan at some point to retrace her family tree of the "Carron" family. It was only recently that she found out that the name was spelt that way and not "Caron" French as she first though. The family haven't moved very far, only across the Irish sea to Wirral.
I am currently back in Wirral visiting my mum,so haven't read up on the next installment of your fic as yet.

I know nothing about Manx names, just that my Uncle spends too much time wandering through Andreas churchyard filling in the family tree, sigh.
I haven't been to the Wirral in years, not since I moved over here 14 years ago. I have been to Liverpool a couple of times (the sea cat is a sight faster than the older boats used to be) but its too hard to get on and off this rock. I'm going to Cardiff in a couple of weeks and to get there, I have to get the boat to Liverpool, then TWO trains to Cardiff. Or, I could have flown from here to Ireland, then Ireland to Cardiff!!! (Not unless I win the lottery, lol), so if your mum is going to come over, she should start planning it now, lol.
She should come over for Tynwald Day, it's usually sunny then, even if it is a bank holiday. *grin*
