Gwen stepped past Jack into his office, flinching slightly as he closed the door behind her with a firm click. She quickly schooled her face into her most teary, wide eyed, regretful expression, making her lower lip tremble as he moved around her quietly to sit behind his desk.

“Jack, I’m so sorry, I didn’t…..”

“Shut up.” He snapped across her words, his eyes and voice almost arctic as he regarded her.

She stood looking at him her mouth open in shock, Jack had never spoken to her like that before.

“This is not about you making your excuses Gwen, this is not about you looking all apologetic and crying crocodile tears. This is about how I am going to deal with the biggest personnel mistake I made since I hired Susie.”

“It’s not as if you can sack me, Jack. Retcon doesn’t take on me, remember.” Gwen snapped, her artificial tears drying up rapidly.

“Retcon isn’t the only option for dealing with problem staff available to Torchwood three.”

“You can’t kill me.” She squeaked in alarm, knowing even as she said it that he damn well could if he wanted to, kill her, make it all look like an accident, no one would be any the wiser.

“Oh, I don’t plan on killing you Gwen, that would be letting you off far too easily. You are going to be going back into uniform, I’m afraid Gwen, and as we are RTU’ing you as completely unsuitable for work in special ops, or anything else that doesn’t have rigid control over you, you are never likely to get back out of uniform. There will be a little memory adjustment of course, to make sure you can’t tell anyone anything about Torchwood beyond what they already know, special ops, all that. Tosh has also put a special transfer request through the computer for you, but you’ll find out more about that once you’re back in harness with the police.”

“How are you going to mess with my memory? Retcon…”

“I didn’t invite you to speak, PC Cooper.”

She fell silent again, real fear creeping through her now, she had seen Jack’s darker side directed at other people before, but she had always thought she was safe from it, he had always overlooked her mistakes in the past.

“Now, as you were about to remind me, again, Retcon has proven ineffective on you. I have something else in mind. When you step out of this office, Owen, Ianto and the Doctor are going to take you down to Owen’s domain, and they will use a handy combination of hypnosis, drugs, and alien tech to shape your memory the way we want it shaped. I would like to say that it’s been nice working with you, Ms. Cooper, but I’m trying to cut down the amount of lies I have to tell. You may go.”

She looked quickly over her shoulder, seeing the three men waiting for her, and turned her attention back to Jack.

“Don’t I get a chance to put my side, to appeal?”

“No Gwen, you don’t. You’ve had more chances than I give most people, you’ve blown them all. It’s over Gwen, now get out of my office, it’s not nice to keep them waiting.”

Gwen turned and walked to the door, genuine tears in her eyes for the first time as she reached out with a shaking hand, to open the door. The three men fell in silently around her, Ianto and Owen gripping her arms as they marched her down to Owen’s lab.

Tosh appeared in Jack’s doorway as the footfalls faded away.

“Are you OK?” She asked quietly.

“Yeah, I guess. I’ll be glad to get away from here though, I’m not cut out for staffing and running a place like this.”

“We were right then, you are leaving?”

“Ianto and I will be going with the Doctor when he leaves this time, yes. You and Owen will be joint heads of Torchwood three, you can balance each other, everything will have to be agreed on by both of you. You can interview and hire the replacement staff yourselves. I will say this though, PC Andy seems like a solid choice, a steady copper. More reliable than her, anyway.” Jack said, his head tilting in the direction that. Gwen had been taken in.

“I’ll discuss it with Owen. Um, you are going to leave us a way to contact you, aren’t you? In case something comes up we can’t handle?”

“Yeah,” Jack said with a smile.

“Thanks, um, if you don’t mind, I’m going to go and watch them working on Gwen.”

“Sure, you go ahead, I should really start getting my stuff together for when we leave.”

Tosh left him alone, and Jack climbed down the ladder to his room.

***

The Doctor woke up, feeling Ianto curled against his back. He frowned slightly, Jack had been safely held between the two of them when they had fallen asleep after making love, but now there was no sign of the immortal in the bed. The Doctor gently disengaged himself from Ianto’s sleep lax grip, sliding out of bed to track down their missing lover.

The TARDIS led him to the console room, and he found Jack there, standing in the open doorway, the TARDIS threshold the only thing between him and the swirling maelstrom of the vortex. He stepped up behind Jack, leaning into his back and wrapping his arms around his waist, sliding his hands under the loose black silk of Jack’s robe to rest on the warm skin of his stomach.

“What’s up?” He asked quietly.

Jack leaned his head back to rest on the Doctor’s shoulder so that he could look at him.

“I had some stuff on my mind, I couldn’t sleep.”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

Jack closed the door on the vortex, and led the Doctor over to the seat beside the console. They sat down pressed together, and the Doctor wrapped an arm around Jack, pulling him in to rest against his side.

“I remember everything you know,” Jack said quietly.

“About what?”

“Being Raiko again, being a child again. It was all a little confused after you first changed me back, but the memories have settled. You and Ianto…” He trailed off, his eyes closing for a moment.

“Jack, are you upset because Ianto and I were still lovers while you were a child?”

“What? No, Gods no, I’m pleased about that. I had been  a little uncertain about if this was what Ianto really wanted, or if he was just accepting it to still have a relationship with me. That sounds really arrogant, doesn’t it?”

“No, just that you were concerned, he does love you a lot, so do I.”

He felt Jack smile, but the younger man stayed tucked against him, not looking up.

“You and Ianto, you were……. I never felt so loved, cared about, the first time I was that age. I knew my parents loved me, obviously, but the colony was still struggling, and they needed to focus on the work. You and Ianto would make wonderful parents.”

“Alistair said the same thing. It isn’t going to happen though, so there’s no point thinking about it.”

“I’m capable of carrying a child.” Jack whispered.

“What? Are you sure?”

“I’ve been pregnant before, I didn’t carry the child to term, but that was an accident, not inability.”

“An accident?”

“Yeah, I didn’t know I was pregnant, until I took a bad hit playing Slam ball,” he said, and the Doctor felt him shrug slightly.

“I’m sorry.” The Time Lord whispered.

“I was seventeen, and only seven weeks pregnant. Back then it seemed like such a small thing. Now though, I want a child, I want to have a child with you and Ianto.”

“Jack, this isn’t something you should decide rashly.”

“I’ve thought of very little else since the memories settled. I’m deadly serious about this Doctor. I want the three of us to have a baby.”

“We’ll talk about it with Ianto tomorrow, ok?”

“But you’re on board with the idea?”

“If Ianto agrees, yes,” the Doctor said, kissing Jack lightly on top of his head.

“Come on, back to bed,”

The Doctor took Jack to the bedroom, where they found Ianto just getting out of the bed.

“I was wondering where you two had got to,” he said.

“Jack was restless, I just went to drag him back.” The Doctor grinned, stripping Jack out of his robe and pushing him gently into Ianto’s arms.

The three of them settled back into the bed, Jack pinned once more between the other two, facing Ianto with the Doctor pressed against his back. He moaned softly as he felt the Doctor gently press into him, his channel still slick and relaxed from their earlier activities. Ianto grinned at the Doctor over Jack’s shoulder, and took Jack’s mouth in a deep, demanding kiss as his strong hand reached down to caress and stroke Jack’s growing erection and the silky sacs of his balls, the kiss swallowing Jack’s moans and sighs as the Doctor gently thrust against his prostate, making love to him slowly, tenderly while Ianto jacked him off at an equally slow, maddening pace.

Jack cried out into the still demanding kiss as he fell over the edge of passion, vaguely aware of his muscles clamping down on the Doctor, feeling the older man spill inside him, and at the same time, reaching over his him to grip Ianto, a sharp tug bringing him off too. The three of them drifted into a blissed out sleep, limbs still entangled, holding them together.

Epilogue 1

Gwen Cooper stood on the dark, wind and rain swept road, sighing deeply. It was cold, wet, miserable, and she hated it here. Tosh’s transfer request had sent her to the Falkland Islands, and every time she had opened her mouth to say she didn’t want to go there, the suggestions she had put into her head kicked in, and she found herself offering to get coffee (she would kill Ianto if she ever got the chance).

She couldn’t mention Torchwood, or aliens. She couldn’t quit her job. She was blocked in place by the work they had put into the hypnotic suggestions. A visit to Cardiff when she had got some leave made her wonder if it was even worth trying to fight the conditioning.

When her transfer had come through, Rhys had said that it was ‘maybe for the best,’ he was seeing the barmaid from the Black Bull. Gwen knew who he meant, a pretty, pert red head with wide green eyes. On her visit to Cardiff, she had passed the flat, wondering if she could maybe win him back somehow, only to see him coming out with his new girlfriend, very pregnant, and both of them glowing, grinning. Crossing the plass, commiserating with herself over losing out, she had seen Tosh and Owen hurrying toward the water tower, Andy and a strange man in tow.

Rhys had replaced her with someone prettier and more willing to have a baby, Torchwood had replaced her with someone who she had thought was a friend, and she knew Tosh and Owen had seen her, but they had both cut her dead completely. She had headed back to her new placement without waiting for her leave to end, there was nothing for her in Cardiff now, she had been washed away without a trace.

So now she was stuck her, cold, wet miserable, with sheep and penguins for company, along with a lot of local people who always looked on her as an outsider. She had seen a few of the men from the base here, but they were only interested in a quick fuck, they offered her no way out. She was finally accepting that she was trapped.

Epilogue 2

Alistair looked up from the crossword he had spread on the kitchen table with a smile. Bang on 1am, he noticed on the clock as he stood up and headed to the garage at the sound of the TARDIS finishing her materialization.

It had been a year for him since the Doctor, Ianto and little Raiko headed off back to Cardiff, and he wondered how long it had been for them. The last contact he had had before this call asking if he would mind them visiting had been the day they had left, letting him know that everything had worked out, and Jack was back to normal.

The door opened and the Doctor bounced out, grinning at him.

“Alistair, so good to see you again, my old friend.” He shook his hand firmly.

“And you my friend. Where are Jack and Ianto?”

“Come inside, there is someone we want you to meet.” The Doctor pulled him through the door, his grin growing broader.

As the Doctor led him through the corridors, he ignored any question Alistair threw at him, until they reached a door Alistair thought looked familiar.

“Isn’t this the room Raiko had? He hasn’t been turned into a child again has he?”

“Wait and see Alistair, no patience, you humans.”

He opened the door and ushered Alistair into the dimly lit room. There was an old fashioned oak crib in one corner, a low couch to the side. Ianto sat on the couch, watching something with wide eyed awe. Following the gaze, Alistair’s eyes lit on a rocking chair that seemed to match the crib, and Captain Jack Harkness was sitting in the chair, a white wrapped bundle cradled against his chest. A tiny hand reached out as Jack brought a bottle up to the bundle, and the only sound in the room was of contented sucking and the occasional gurgle and sigh.

“A baby?” Alistair breathed.

“His name is Leonides, or Leo, for short.” The Doctor informed him quietly, leading him to where Ianto sat. Alistair sat down gratefully.

“How is this possible? Where’s the mother? Did you adopt?”

“We didn’t adopt, Jack is the mother.”

“I already told you Doctor, you got your way on the name, I am not having him call me mom, or any variation thereof.” Jack warned, but the tone of voice was mild, with the mellow edge of contentment.

“Congratulations, all of you,” Alistair said with a grin, pleased that his friend had the family he had wanted finally.

The baby finished his bottle, and Jack let Ianto lift him out of his arms and carry him over to the couch, where Alistair found himself with his arms full of the warm, wriggling bundle. Leo’s eyes opened, showing themselves to be sharp hazel as they took in, and accepted this stranger, before closing them again.

“Welcome to the Universe, little man.” Alistair said with a grin, knowing the worlds that this young man would be playing on, far from here.
