Terrell has a talk with Ianto
*****************************
Ianto looked at Terrell as he walked into their bedroom, the other man was sprawled on their bed, hands under his head, staring at the ceiling.
“Terrell, what’s wrong? You’ve been distracted for days.”
“Yes. I wish to have a serious talk with you, but I am not sure how you will feel about it.”
“That sounds……bad.”
“No, well, it depends on your viewpoint. That is why I have been unsure of broaching the subject.”
“Now is as good a time as any,” Ianto said, sitting down on the edge of the bed, his back ramrod straight.
Terrell sat up, crossing his legs under him, and pulling a pillow into his lap, looking down at the soft cotton.
“I would have us formalize our relationship.”
“What?” Ianto asked, startled. That wasn’t what he had been dreading hearing from the way Terrell had been acting. It almost sounded like he was…….
“Are you asking me to marry you?”
“Marry? I do not understand this term.”
“On Earth, when two people want to be…… it’s hard to put into words. It’s a ceremony, to establish your relationship by law, in the eyes of your friends and family, in the name of they deity you believe in.”
“Yes, that is it, I wish to be formally united with you, to marry you.”
“Oh, wow.”
Ianto was stunned out of any possibility of a coherent answer for a moment.
“Is this a good response or a bad response?” Terrell asked nervously.
“It’s a good response, a very good response. Yes Terrell, I would dearly love to marry you, to formalize our relationship.”
“Oh, my love, I am so pleased.”
“So, how did you have in mind to do it?”
“I am not sure. Can we do this on your world, so that your family can attend?”
“We can, of a fashion. On Earth, in my time, many do not believe that two men should be permitted to marry. We can have a Civil Ceremony, which is a non religious ceremony. It would be held in a register office or registered venue. No hymns or prayers or blessings.”
“Hmm. This sounds like it lacks some of the magic of a Pair Union.”
“What would a Pair Union entail then?”
“It is an intergalactically recognized ceremony, but many worlds have their own slight variations. It also depends on the psionic ratings of those uniting. If they are capable, then there is a psychic aspect to the ceremony, if not, it is simply the ceremony. You can have it as simple or complex as you like, as long as the words are spoken, and meant.”
“Can we do both?”
“Both? That thought had not occurred. I see no reason why not.”
“Oh my God, we’re getting married. I can’t wait to tell the Doctor and Jack, and my family.” Ianto grinned. Then he looked at Terrell, and his smile turned naughty.
“Actually, I can wait,” he said, taking the pillow from Terrell and throwing it on the floor, before pushing Terrell down onto his back on the mattress and kissing him hungrily.
The others were in the kitchen, eating breakfast, when Ianto and Terrell came in the next morning. Jack and the Doctor looked up at them, and they noticed Jack smirking at them.
“What?” Ianto asked defensively.
“Heightened senses.” Jack pointed out with a smirk, making the other two blush.
“Jack, stop it,” the Doctor said, unable to hide his own smirk totally.
“Can you always hear us?” Ianto asked in horror suddenly.
“No, you were just being, um, passionate, last night.” Jack laughed.
“Oh.” Ianto blushed redder.
“Stop teasing them,” the Doctor said finally.
“We have something to tell you guys.” Ianto said as they took their seats at the table.
“You’re pregnant?” Jack asked with a laugh.
“Not even in jest Jack, not even in jest.” Ianto shuddered. He would never forget delivering Kalen.
“So, what is it?” The Doctor asked, kicking Jack under the table. His mate was in a very odd mood today.
Jack smirked at him, and then was distracted from his teasing when Kalen knocked her milk over.
“We’re getting married,” Ianto said bluntly.
Jack grinned over at him, his eyes brightening.
“Really?” He asked, only half his attention now on mopping up the milk spill.
“Yes, once on Earth, if that’s all right with you Doctor, a Civil Ceremony so that my family can come, and then a Pair Union.”
“Oooh, what planet are you thinking of Pairing on?” The Doctor asked, almost bouncing in excitement.
“I thought you might be able to make some recommendations there, Doctor.”
“I’ll see what I can come up with.” The Time Lord grinned.
“So have you phoned your mom yet?” Jack asked as he lobbed the wet cloth into the sink and pushed Kalen’s toast closer to her again.
“Not yet, I though it would be better to see if the Doctor would be willing to take us back to Earth so that we can do it, first.”
“Of course I will. You talk to her, give her the good news, and get her to find out exactly what would be required of you. Jack, will you start forging the documentation that Terrell would need, birth certificate and the such like.”
“Sure, no problem.”
“Is that necessary?” Terrell asked.
“Yeah, humans are kind of weird about people from other planets. I know that Ianto’s family knows about aliens, and that you are one, but the rest of the populace isn’t really so cool. We can’t say ‘sorry, we don’t have his documents because he was born on another planet’.” Jack explained to him.
“So, how will you explain me?”
“We’ll just claim you’re from another country.”
The Doctor noticed that Jack was completely distracted now, his odd mood fading as his attention was completely focused on the project he had ahead of him.
“Right, Kalen, Bobby, time for lessons with the TARDIS. Off you go to the school room.” The Doctor chivvied them towards the door.
“Aw, do we have to?” Bobby groaned, far more interested in what was exciting the adults than his lessons. Kalen looked up hopefully, mutely seconding her brother’s protest.
“Well, I suppose you could skip it, but I thought you were looking forward to this month’s lab time, this afternoon. Well, if you want to wait another month to start your new projects….”
“No.” They both yelped, hurrying out of the door.
“What was that about?” Ianto asked.
“This month’s lab time is botany. Jack’s crystal roses seeded a few days ago, so they need to propagate the ones they are given. They’re really looking forward to growing their own.” The Doctor grinned.
“Really? I wouldn’t mind having a go at that myself, if there are any seeds spare.”
“Sure, they all seeded, so there are enough for the kids to have a couple each, you can have a couple, and I still have enough to store for future plantings.” Jack shrugged.
He rose from the table, kissing the Doctor as he drew level with him in the doorway.
“I’m going to make a start on those documents. I’ll glance into the school room as I pass and make sure those two mini heathens are studying.”
“Thanks Jack. Terrell and I will try to make a shortlist of worlds for the Pair Union, so that he and Ianto can look it over later, and Ianto, you were going to phone your mum, weren’t you?”
“On my way now.” Ianto confirmed, heading off to the console room.
He hoped it was a reasonable time on Earth, as he picked up the phone, he knew his mother would be excited at the news whatever time it was, but he didn’t want to wake his parents up.
“Angharad Jones.” Was the cheerful greeting after only two rings.
“Mam, it’s me.”
“Hello Ianto, lovely to hear from you,” she said, genuine pleasure clear in her voice.
“Thank you, I have some news for you, mam,” he said, smiling.
“Is something wrong?” She asked, alarmed.
“No, mam, Terrell and I are getting married.”
“Really? Oh Ianto, that’s wonderful news, really wonderful. When?”
“As soon as we can get a registry office booked on Earth,”
“You’re marrying here? Oh lovely, where?”
“That, I’m hoping you can help with, can you look into venues and see what they have free, and what they would require from us?”
“Of course I will. I’ll start looking into venues for a reception too. Who exactly are you going to want there?”
“Just family really mam, and I might contact a couple of friends and find out if they would like to come.”
“Well. I’ll get right on it, start making calls, and let you know what I find out. Could I tell your sisters? Please.”
“If you really want to.” He laughed.
“Well, I’ll speak to you later, and congratulations son.”
Ianto was left staring at the dead phone in bemusement as his mother hung up on him in her enthusiasm. He hoped she wasn’t going to go too mad with whatever she was planning. He pulled himself together and dialed again.
“Sato.” Was the extremely distracted response this time.
“Tosh, it’s Ianto.”
“Ianto? Where are you? Are you back on Earth?”
“I have no idea where I am, but it’s definitely not Earth. Is it safe to talk?”
“Yeah, Gwen, Owen and Paul are out on a Weevil hunt.”
“Who?”
“Oh, Owen finally got round to hiring someone else a couple of years back, and it only took him five years or whatever.” She snorted.
“Right, well, anyway. Would you like to come to my wedding Tosh?”
“Really? Who to?”
“Terrell, you remember him, don’t you?”
“Of course I do, I’d love to. Where and when?”
“I have no idea. Do you still live in the same place?”
“Yes.”
“I’ll have my mam send you an invite, when we get it sorted, but it will be as soon as we can get it organized.”
“Oh brilliant., Ianto, I am so pleased for you.”
“Thanks Tosh.”
“I better go, they’re coming back.”
“All right, speak to you later, Tosh.”
They rang off, and Ianto went to see where the others were. There was no one in the kitchen, and the children where alone in the school room. He finally tracked Terrell and the Doctor to the library, but he had seen no sign of Jack on his wanderings.
“Well, my mother is starting stuff off on Earth, I dread to imagine what she’s plotting. What have you two found?” He asked, gesturing to the pile of books that rested on the table that sat between Terrell and the Doctor as he plopped onto the couch beside Terrell.
“There are a few possible worlds that don’t insist that at least one participant in the Pair Union come from the planet in question. And we narrowed it down to six that specialize in non-psi ceremonies. I’ll leave you and Terrell to look the list over and see which one you like best. Once that is done, I can send messages to the being in charge of the place you choose, and have them start the preparations.”
“Thank you,” Ianto said, taking the scrawled list the Doctor held out.
The Doctor grinned and left the library, heading off in search of his mate.
He found him in a small lab, surrounded by screens, and pictures of documents, and pictures of Terrell, trying to match him to a suitable country of origin so that he could produce the faked documents.
“Full steam ahead?” Jack asked, shooting his lover a huge, cheeky grin. The Doctor grinned back, realizing that Jack’s hyper mood had reasserted itself.
“Full steam ahead.” He agreed, pulling up another chair beside Jack.
“Why are you in such a hyper mood today?”
“No idea, I just feel…… high, full of energy, full of life. Maybe the vortex is charged today.” Jack laughed, tapping the Doctor on the end of his nose with one finger, and making the older man jump as a pale blue spark danced, tickling, on the end of his nose for a moment.
The Doctor laughed, and stood up again, kissing Jack on the top of his head and leaving him to get on with it.
Out in the corridor once more, he decided to go to the console room and check what was going on in the vortex. He didn’t want to risk anything harming the TARDIS.
