*******************
The four of them stood frozen in position, gawping at the small figure huddled on the floor, swamped in Jack’s clothing. The little boy looked up, his face pale, his blue eyes impossibly large under the thatch of untidy dark hair. His eyes skittered around the forbidding view of the hub visible through the office windows, and the four people staring silently at him, and his eyes filled with tears.
“Oh, poor little thing.” Gwen cooed, hurrying forward with the intention of comforting the silently crying child.
The boy scuttled backwards, or tried to, he fell, tripped by the oversize clothing that pooled around his feet on the floor. He kicked the restriction of the boots and trousers away, scrabbling backwards still swaddled in the massive t-shirt and shirt, not stopping until he hit the corner, and couldn’t go any further, then he sat there shaking, watching them cautiously and clutching his wrist, which he had hurt when he fell.
“For Gods sake Gwen, back off, you’re scaring the boy.” Surprisingly, it was Owen who reined her in.
“But he’s upset, and he’s hurt.” She objected.
“Yes, and you terrorizing him is really going to help. One of us should stay and keep an eye on him, whoever would be least threatening, the rest of us should get out of sight and let him calm down,” Owen said. He looked between Ianto and Tosh, obviously trying to figure out which one a terrified child would find least threatening.
“Tosh, get to work on that thing, carefully, and see if you can figure a way to reverse this. Ianto, keep your distance from him.” He finally sighed. Tosh would more than likely appear the less frightening of the two, but he needed her to look at the device.
Ianto closed the door when the others left, then went and closed the hatch down to Jack’s quarters below the office. He didn’t want little Jack to fall down there if he did manage to coax him out of that corner. He could feel frightened eyes watching him as he moved around the room, and made sure not to make any sudden moves as he went and sat against the door.
Little Jack was crying harder now, still silent as he clutched his wrist harder, obviously in pain. They needed to get that looked at, but there was no way the boy was going to allow that until he trusted them.
Ianto leaned his head back against the door, looking at the ceiling, and wondered how long Jack was going to be stuck like this. The enormity of this was starting to sink in, Jack wasn’t from this planet, so he was basically a small child, trapped on an alien world, and as far as Ianto knew, not understanding the language. He was sure he remembered Jack, or maybe the Doctor, saying that Jack hadn’t had to learn English until he joined the Time Agency, and Earth had come under his jurisdiction. They didn’t even know this child’s name, there was no way he would respond to Jack.
The boy jumped as there was a tap at the door, and Ianto twisted round where he sat, he felt like crying himself at the surge of relief he felt when he saw the Doctor standing there. He shifted enough to open the door and let the time lord in, then closed the door again.
“The TARDIS picked up a large energy surge around Jack. What happened?” The Doctor asked, looking from the petrified small boy his lover had become to the young human they had easily included in their relationship.
Ianto leaned against his older lover’s legs for a moment, relieved at his presence, and then answered the question.
“Gwen happened. She took off on one of her slightly hypocritical fits of moral indignation about Jack taking an alien device off Tosh. She was waving it around, and as far as I could tell, squeezed the buttons. There was this blue mist that enveloped Jack, and when it cleared, he was…… well.” Ianto said, inclining his head slightly in Jack’s direction to indicate what he was.
“What’s wrong with his wrist?”
“Not sure, he fell over his clothes, but he won’t let anyone get close to him, so I don’t know if it’s fractured, or sprained, or just bruised.”
The Doctor nodded, and sat down beside Ianto, crossing his legs under him, and planting his elbow on his knee, resting his chin on his fist.
//We’re not going to hurt you,// he said, and the child looked up quickly at finally hearing words he understood.
//I want to go home,// he whispered in the same tongue.
//I know, and I wish you could, but you have to stay here for a little while. The people here want to be your friends, and they’re trying to get you home, they really are. Will you tell me your name? I’m called the Doctor.//
//Raiko.//
//Raiko, nice name. You have hurt yourself, will you let me look at your wrist?//
The boy watched him warily for a moment, and then shuffled closer, prepared to bolt at the slightest thing, and held out his injured wrist.
The Doctor took it slowly, and ran his thumb lightly over the bones. He couldn’t feel any obvious breaks, but that didn’t mean much.
//Will you come with us to my ship, and we can make that stop hurting?//
//Us?//
//This is Ianto. He wants to help me make sure no one hurts you.//
//’Ant’o?// The boy mangled the name slightly, but the Welshman heard him, and smiled slightly, pointing to himself.
“Yes, I’m Ianto,” He said softly.
“We’re going to go to the TARDIS and sort his wrist out. Coming?” The Doctor said.
“Yes.” Ianto stood up, looking down at Jack, with his bare feet.
“One of us is going to have to carry him. Between the grating, and the damp concrete, he can’t walk out of here barefoot.”
//Will you allow me to carry you? The floor out there will hurt your feet.//
After a long pause, Raiko nodded mutely and held still while the Doctor picked him up. Once settled in the Doctor’s grip, he clung like a limpet with his three good limbs, resting his head on the Doctor’s shoulder, and watching everything silently as the Doctor carried him out of the office.
“Where are you taking him?” Owen asked, careful to keep his tone quiet and unthreatening.
“To the TARDIS. Fix his wrist up, and maybe run a few scans, make sure he’s healthy.”
Jack had relaxed once cocooned in the telepathic warmth of the TARDIS, and had fallen asleep while the Doctor had fixed his wrist and run his scans. The Doctor was standing at the bottom of the bed, watching the little boy sleep, looking somehow smaller with the bandage supporting his wrist while the small fracture finished knitting, and the white hospital gown. He looked over his shoulder as Ianto came in from getting a status report from Tosh.
“She say’s it was damaged while Gwen was squeezing and shaking it. She’s not sure she can fix it.” Ianto reported quietly. The Doctor closed his eyes, scrubbing his hands through his already untidy hair, making it stick out in all directions.
“If it can’t be fixed, he’s going to have to grow up all over again,” Ianto said.
The Doctor shook his head tiredly and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Ianto, he’s still immortal. Never dying, never aging. If we can’t reverse this, then he will never grow up, he’ll be five years old forever.”
To be continued in Part 3.

I have no idea where the name came from, it was completely random. I thought it sounded different, without sounding outlandish.

You are evil and I soooo knew you'd turn him into a kid. It'll be interesting to see how this goes and what happens with the Doc and Yan whilst Jack is still mini!Jack.
