Something to Celebrate (Eternity-Verse 25)

Jack grinned in excitement as he led the Doctor and the children to where the TARDIS had told him the shell of the new TARDIS was. Reaching the stretch of corridor, he pointed them at the viewing glass and seats he could see waiting for them.

“You can watch from there,”

“Are you sure you’re going to be OK Jack?” the Doctor asked.

“Everythin g is going to be fine,” Jack assured him, his eyes already starting to shift.

The Doctor nodded and went over to the seats, smiling fondly at the sight of Bobby and Kalen, kneeling on the seats, their noses pressed to the glass as Jack stepped into the odd looking room on the other side.

The room had no form, at all, it wasn’t spherical, but there were no corners, no edges, no curves, nothing. Everything was a soft, pearl grey color, but he thought he could see shifting patterns on it, even though there was no variation in the color or the depth. He would almost think Jack was standing in a thick fog, if he couldn’t see him clearly. It was the new pocket dimension, he realized with a start, Jack was standing inside what would be the new TARDIS, which meant that the corridor they were in must actually be part of the shell surrounding that dimension, supported by the TARDIS until Jack could infuse the soul into it, giving it the awareness to support itself under the guidance of the old girl.

“Mama glowing,” Kalen breathed, making the Doctor snap his attention away from his musings.

Jack was glowing, haloed in a soft violet light that was shot through with those blue sparks. Stretching out his arms, Jack sank gracefully to his knees, and the sparking violet mist started to drift away from him, wisps being absorbed into the surfaces around the dimension, making colors start to appear, pastel shades of blue, and violet and green starting to shift across the surfaces as the new TARDIS came to life right in front of their eyes. The Doctor thought he saw a tiny wisp of the mist and a single blue spark sink back into Jack as he rose to his feet once more, but dismissed it; it was difficult to tell for sure in the shifting multitude of colors that now started to settle beyond the glass as Jack stepped toward the door. He was beside them in a moment, leaning tiredly into the Doctor’s side as they watched the colors still and start to fade once more into the walls, which now started to take on a shape, a loosely defined square settled into place on the other side of the glass.

Jack eased the children back from the glass as it shimmered and rippled, and for a moment, there were two ghostly images of the wall there, then their one stabilized, becoming solid once more, and Jack allowed them to lean into it again as they watched the ghost wall on the other side of the glass start to solidify as it contracted in around that dimension, compacting it properly as they shrank into the center of the space. The area around the still shrinking cube darkened to the velvet darkness of space, and as the cube finally stopped reducing in size, stars, constellations, started to light in the darkness, creating an amazing nursery for this new TARDIS to grow in.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Jack asked, looking at him in alarm.

The Doctor gave him a puzzled look and Jack reached up with a thumb to wipe tears from his cheek. The Doctor shook his head and grinned.

“Nothing is wrong; I didn’t even realize I was crying. Jack, that was beautiful, so beautiful. I saw the pens of course, on Gallifrey, but there was nothing at all as magical as that there. You two have done the most amazing thing,” he said, leaning into Jack as he rested one hand against the wall. He felt the joy from the TARDIS that this was something that made him happy, and his grin widened.

Jack swayed then, and the Doctor caught him, steadying him.

“Bobby, Kalen, mama is tired. Why don’t you go and play in your room for a little while so mum can rest, and then we’ll go out for a really special dinner tonight.”

“Ok,” they chorused, darting off. The Doctor let them go, knowing the TARDIS would guide them through the unfamiliar corridors to their room as he followed more slowly with Jack.

Once he had Jack settled in bed to catch a nap, the Doctor slipped out of the TARDIS to the comm. unit on the patio close to where they had parked. He poked it with his sonic screwdriver, and when the screen lit up, he punched in the comm. frequency for the honeymoon cabin.

“Hello?” Ianto’s voice sounded puzzled.

“Ianto it’s me, the Doctor.”

“Oh God, has something happened, is something wrong?”

“No, don’t panic, everything is great, better than great. Jack and the old girl just created a new TARDIS, and we’re going to have a celebration dinner when Jack wakes up in a couple of hours. I just thought you might like to come.”

“They did that? Is that what he was being so secretive about?”

“Yes, to both,” the Doctor grinned, despite the fact no one could see him.

“Wow, amazing. Hang on a second,” Ianto said, and for a moment, there was the indistinct murmur of voices on the other end of the connection, then the unmistakable sound of two people kissing.

“Terrell and I would love to come. Do you have any idea how we get of the island though?”

“Yes, I’ll get a flitter to come and pick you up, and take you back when you’re ready to return,” the Doctor laughed.

“We’ll be ready,” Ianto confirmed.

After quick goodbyes, they cut the connection, and the Doctor made a second call to order the flitter to go and get them, then he headed over to the hotel to ask the desk what restaurant they would recommend that was excellent, but would be able to seat six at short notice.

Fifteen minutes later, everything was organized, and he headed back to the TARDIS. Checking into the children’s room, he saw them happily playing with a set of toy cars that Ianto’s parents had given to Bobby the last Christmas they had been there, he smiled at them, and ducked out again, going to the wardrobe rooms, to see what the TARDIS recommended for a smart outfit for each of them in this climate.

Jack looked startled when he came into the console room after getting the children dressed and saw Ianto and Terrell grinning at him.

“What on Earth….?” Jack started, and then he shook his head and grinned, going over to pull the two into a hug.

“I am so pleased to see you two. How have you been enjoying your island?” he asked.

“It’s fantastic Jack, truly fantastic,” Ianto said, blushing lightly.

Jack laughed and waggled his finger at the Doctor as he came into the room.

“Breaking into their honeymoon to make them come and have dinner with us,” he mock chided, before going to hug his mate.

“Thank you, the whole family should be celebrating this,” he said softly, looking around at the group, their family.

As soon as they stepped outside, they were glad of the outfits the TARDIS had chosen for them, the light, white linen like fabric was cool, which was definitely appreciated seeing that it didn’t seem to get any cooler here even after the sun went down. Kalen and Bobby scampered ahead, flitting from one pool of colored lamp light to the next giggling together as they followed the path to the restaurant the Doctor had booked.

The restaurant itself was on the shore, lit inside by hanging lamps and candles, but despite the intimate atmosphere, the place was pleasantly cheerful as they were led out to the table on the bamboo framed balcony. The Doctor took Jack’s hand as they sat at the table, twining their fingers together as they watched Ianto and Terrell do the same thing on the other side of the table, and the four of them watched Bobby and Kalen turning in their seats to watch the wash of waves underneath their balcony. Life didn’t get much better than this, he decided.

A baby TARDIS!!!!! Yay. I still adore that the kids call him mama, and love that he's a navigator.

Yay briliant chapter! Oh- I've been reading your 'Side-Step' extras, and - is the blue spark that the Doctor saw go into Jack something to do with 'something' mentioned in the side-step chapter of the Eternity-verse? Apologies for the lack of coherency hehe, I just don't wat to give anything away. Anyway, I can't wait for more! :D

Glad you liked it :) Indeedy yes, the side step you are referring to, while set in the future, is a huge clue to the meaning of the spark and mist ;) Cyber cookies for you, you're the first to mention it.

Thanks for posting- love this story. For a while I was afraid Jack was giving Ianto the power to have kids, but I'm sooo glad you didn't do that. It would have ruined it, I think. Because that's something special for Jack and the Doctor. I mean, Ianto and his new husband can always take in some of the orphans they find, but biologically, that's Jack! Like immortality...

So I love where you go with this- baby Tardis!

Thanks for posting

Glad you like it. No, even if Jack and the TARDIS were inclined to offer Ianto the ability to carry children, I think after delivering Kalen, he would probably run screaming from the very idea, lol. Baby TARDIS is the best idea I think ;)
