Side Step SG1

Side step from the ‘Dance’ universe.

Rose sat pinned into the seat beside the console, held in place by a force field as the TARDIS dipped and rolled violently. Jack and the Doctor were at the console, seeming to be anchored in place by one handed grips on the edge of the console and sheer willpower alone. Jack swore in several languages as a switch he was desperately trying to reach was jerked out of his reach by a particularly violent roll that almost broke his grip on the console.

“Jack? Did you hit the temporal/spatial diagnostic control? I’m not getting anything on the screen yet,” the Doctor called over the shrieking sound of a stressed TARDIS.

“I can’t reach, hang on a second,” Jack called back.

Altering his grip on the console, Jack lunged at the switch, cursing again as he missed, losing his grip on the console and slamming hard into the lurching floor. He screamed at the pain that tore through his shoulder, and then shunted the agony aside, pulling himself back up with his uninjured arm and hanging on tightly.

“Jack, are you all right?” Rose yelled.

“I’m fine,” Jack grunted through gritted teeth, he tried to shut out everything that was going on around him and focus his telekinesis on that damn switch. He felt like screaming in frustration, he couldn’t feel the switch, he wasn’t practiced enough to manipulate something so small. Determination narrowed his focus, sparks dancing around the edges of his vision as he pushed himself harder than he ever had before, and he saw the switch tremble then flip.
