**********************************
The Doctor slipped into Jack and Ianto’s rooms quietly, not wanting to disturb Jack if he was sleeping. The immortal was curled up on the sofa where Ianto had left him, one hand resting over the swell of his stomach, the other tucked under his head. He looked so innocent, the Doctor mused.
Jack sighed and shifted, stretching against the cushions before slowly pushing himself upright. He started slightly at the sight of the Doctor watching him.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you, I was just going to wait until you woke up.”
“S’ok, I wasn’t intending to sleep anyway. What’s up?” Jack yawned.
“I just heard Ianto and Martha talking in the kitchen.”
“Uh huh, and?”
“Two things, one, you should have told me you were having problems with your shields, I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
“It wasn’t much of a problem, you’re shielded, and the TARDIS pretty much blocks Ianto and Martha for me. I just get flashes sometimes when Ianto is actually touching me.”
“All right, I trust you and the TARDIS to know your limits. Two, Ianto.”
“What about him?” Jack asked, suspicion in his tone.
“What are we going to do about the fact he seems to have feelings for the two of us?”
“How do you know that?” Jack asked.
“I overheard Ianto and Martha talking in the kitchen,” the Doctor said with a slight shrug.
Jack shifted his legs slightly as the Doctor came to sit on the edge of the sofa.
“What do you want to do?” Jack asked.
“I don’t know Jack. What about you?”
“Trinary relationships are the most successful where I come from, Doctor.” Jack shrugged.
“Yes, I know. Ianto is a 21st century human though, they’re not as flexible as us. How would he cope with the idea?”
“I think, if we both spoke to him, he would at least consider it. We would have to be bloody sure before we spoke to him though Doctor. If it didn’t work out, it would end up destroying one or all of us, you know that.”
“Yes, yes I do.” The Doctor nodded. He reached out and rested a hand lightly over their child, feeling a shift inside Jack at his touch.
“You still need to make your own decision really, about what you’re going to want after this little one arrives. Once you’re sure, come to me, and if there is need to take this discussion further, we can do it then.”
“Yes.” Jack agreed, resting one hand alongside the Doctor’s atop his bump. The Doctor smiled faintly at him, then stood.
“I’ll leave you to rest.”
Jack watched the Doctor leave the room, his hand still resting over his swollen stomach, his thumb restlessly stroking back and forth. Once the door closed behind the Time Lord, Jack’s gaze drifted to the ceiling, his eyes losing focus as he thought about his future, and that of the child he carried.
“Jack?” Ianto’s voice startled him a little, he hadn’t sensed the other man come back into the room, he was so lost in his thoughts. He looked over to see Ianto standing there with a tray.
“Sorry, I was miles away.”
“I noticed, I thought it was time you ate something,” he said, raising the tray slightly.
“What is it?” Jack asked.
“Soup, a roast beef sandwich, orange juice and tea.”
“Great,” Jack said as his stomach growled hungrily. He hauled himself to his feet and headed over to the table. His stomach got in the way of him eating from his lap now.
Ianto carried the tray to the table and unloaded it for Jack, putting the tray by the door for later.
“You’re not eating?”
“I had breakfast, and I just had coffee and biscuits in the kitchen with Martha.”
“Oh, I miss coffee.” Jack pouted as he sipped the tea with a small scowl.
“A few more months, and you can have all the coffee you want again.”
Jack rolled his eyes, but tore into the food without further comment, he really didn’t mind going without caffeine for the sake of his baby, he just sometimes missed the buzz of a good, strong cup of coffee.
“Have you had any thoughts on what you’re going to do after the birth?” Ianto asked as Jack polished off the rest of the soup and the last sandwich.
Jack sank back in the chair, one hand automatically going to his stomach again as he sipped the orange juice.
“I’m going to stay, I have to. I want this child to grow up with both its parents there. I only had my mother growing up, and she did her best, but I missed having a father there.”
“What happened to your father?”
“I don’t know, my mother would never talk about him, at all.”
“Is that the only reason you’re thinking of staying? I have to point out Jack, that with this ship he could set up a regular visiting schedule if you decided to settle somewhere.”
“It wouldn’t be the same, Ianto. There is also the major factor that this baby is only half human, there is a whole chunk of its heritage I can’t tell it anything about.”
“So, we’re staying then?”
“Do you really want to stay here with us Ianto?”
“I told you Jack, I’m not leaving you, unless you tell me you don’t want me around anymore. If you want me to go, I will Jack.” Ianto promised him, wondering if the fact that Jack had figured out that he was interested in the Doctor was what was making Jack suggest he go. The thought of leaving hurt.
“No, Ianto, I don’t want you to leave, I also don’t want you to force yourself to stay if you’re not happy. I want you to know that you can leave if that is what you want to do.”
“Then we’re staying,” Ianto said firmly. He may never have any more than friendship with either of the men he wanted, but that was better than not having them at all.
Jack caught the thought, and knew that he and the Doctor had to make sure that they were really sure a trinary relationship was what they wanted before they approached Ianto. He deserved better than to be hurt by them backing out after they had pulled him in with them. He would settle things in his own mind over the next couple of days, make sure he was 100% certain in the choices he had made, before he took the next step and spoke to the Time Lord.
“Just promise me you won’t say anything yet, Ianto. I want a couple of days to make sure I don’t get cold feet, and decide to settle somewhere instead.”
“I promise, Jack. This is between you and me until you know for sure you’re making the right decision.” Ianto confirmed.

Also, I was very pleased and impressed with all our boys having such calm, rational discussions in this chapter. It makes me hopeful about their future.
