************************************
The Doctor lay awake, his eyes roving over the young human still asleep in his arms. He was aware of the deep ache inside him, the ghostly reminder of Jack’s taking him, completing the bond, but it was a pleasurable ache, which when paired with the gentle hum of Jack’s mind against his own made him feel possessed, owned, like he belonged with someone for the first time in far too many centuries.
Jack stirred, turning onto his side so he was face to face with his new mate, and opening his eyes.
“Hey,” he said huskily.
“Hey.” The Doctor smiled, tightening his grip on the warm, loose limbed body he held, pulling Jack close enough to kiss.
“Hmmmmm, I can definitely get used to waking up like this.” Jack whispered breathily.
“Oh, me too.” The Doctor agreed with a gentle smile.
He felt more relaxed, happier than he had felt even before the destruction of Gallifrey, and even the thought of that didn’t bring the sharp stab of grief that it used to, only a dull ache. He could finally see a direction for his life to go in, and it felt fantastic, so he decided to kiss Jack again.
“Definitely the best way to start the day.” Jack grinned when the Doctor let him breathe.
“What do you want to do today?” The Doctor asked him, running his hands possessively over the smooth muscles of his mate.
“Well, if you’ll keep that up, I vote not moving from this very comfortable bed.”
“Hedonist.” The Doctor laughed.
“Uh huh.” Jack agreed with a smile, his own hands starting to make gentle patterns on the Doctor’s skin.
The Doctor growled and bit at Jack’s shoulder lightly.
“We should really get up,” he said firmly, giving his lover a light shove.
“Fine.” Jack mock sighed, rolling out of bed and giving the Doctor a fine view of his arse as he padded over to the bathroom, unabashedly naked.
“Coming?” He asked, shooting a sultry look over his shoulder.
“Hell yes.” The Doctor grinned, diving across the room after him. Jack laughed and darted into the bathroom.
After a long, and messy shower, they decided to go out and see if anything was going on in
“You’ve been around this area before, any ideas?” Jack asked when they reached the end of the road.
“Well, we could always go and see if there’s any sales open, we didn’t get Rose or Jackie a proper Christmas present.”
“Why the hell not.” Jack shrugged, allowing the Doctor to lead the way.
They actually had a great time at the sales, and made a very effective team at getting the bargains they wanted, with Jack acting as distraction/roadblock and the Doctor sliding through and nabbing the goodies. They got the gifts they wanted to get, as well as some stuff for Jack, as he still had virtually nothing after losing his ship, and they were laughing like idiots and juggling the huge number of bags as they headed back in the twilight.
“What the hell have you two been up to?” Rose asked with a laugh, her voice coming from the deeper shadows of one of the covered walkways, and making them jump.
“Beating mad humans to the best bargains in the sales.” The Doctor laughed back.
Rose and Mickey stepped out of the shadows and both moved to take some of the load of bags, making it less like a juggling act.
“Where are you off to with this lot?” Mickey asked.
“The TARDIS.” The Doctor said with a nod, glad he and Jack had remembered the young man in their scrimmages.
They got to the TARDIS and all dumped the bags they were carrying on the console room floor.
“So, what have you been buying?” Rose asked, looking at the small mountain of bags in bemusement.
“Well, we have a bunch of stuff for Jack, to make a start on replacing what he lost when his ship blew up. And we have some slightly belated Christmas presents.” The Doctor replied.
Jack had been sorting the bags into some semblance of order, and now he handed the right bags out to the Doctor.
“This one is for you, Rose,” the Doctor said, passing one of the bags over, glad they had had all the price tags and things taken off.
“Really?” She opened the bag in excitement, pulling out a pair of black leather boots that looked just like her favorite pair, which had been ruined while they had been running from some threat or another.
“Oh my God, they’re brilliant, thank you so much.” She grinned, kissing Jack and the Doctor on the cheek.
“I’m going to get changed so that I can wear them,” she said, dashing out in the direction of her room.
“We got this for you Mickey.” The Doctor handed over another bag.
“For me? I didn’t expect, you didn’t have to….” Mickey trailed off, lost for words as he stared at the bag in his hand.
“Are you going to open it?” The Doctor asked.
Mickey opened the bag and pulled out a gorgeous black wool jumper. Mickey ran his hand over it, feeling how gorgeously soft and warm it felt.
“Thank you, so much,” he said, still stroking the soft material.
“I hope it’s the right size.”
Mickey held it up in front of himself and smiled.
“It looks perfect, thanks.”
Rose came back in then, now wearing jeans and her new boots.
“Right, now then. We were actually sent to get you two, mum is cooking tea, it will be ready in about half an hour.”
“Oh, right, shall we be off then?” The Doctor asked, picking up the last bag, the one with Jackie’s present in it.
They all set off again, it was fully dark now, and a few stars forced their way through the light pollution to twinkle down at them, and their breaths plumed the air in front of them.
“Do you reckon we’ll get any proper snow?” Rose asked as she allowed Mickey to pull her into the warmth of his jacket with him.
“Possibly in the next day or two, yes.” The Doctor told her, looking up at the sky overhead.
“That would be nice.” Jack said wistfully, and the Doctor cocked an eyebrow at him.
“My home world was too warm and dry for snow, and I only saw it a couple of times on Agency missions and while I was working my cons. I never really had time to stop and play in it, like people seemed to enjoy.”
“I’ll take you somewhere with more snow than you can shake a stick at.” The Doctor promised, pulling Jack into a gentle kiss, privately thinking that a honeymoon would be an excellent idea.

This series has I think, the potential to join the e-verse as a long runner, so it's not going anywhere for a while yet ;-)) And I'm glad you like my characterizations.
